Osamu Tanimoto
Professor of Painting and Drawing
Osamu Tanimoto (Tokyo, 1982) is a painter, engraver, and 3D digital sculptor. He lives and works in Milan. His artistic research moves at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship, digital modeling, and design, with a strong influence from Renaissance and Baroque art — particularly Italian — which has profoundly shaped his educational and professional journey.
Through stylistic experimentation that embraces both the contemporary collective imagination and more intimate, personal dimensions, Tanimoto explores his transcultural identity, born of an ongoing dialogue between Japan, Italy, and other influences.
He trained in drawing and painting at the Russian Academy of Art and in engraving at Il Bisonte, both in Florence. He also earned a degree in Restoration from Marist College and a second-level diploma in Digital Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara.
From 2013 to 2017, he taught drawing and painting at the Sacred Art School of Florence. Internationally, he has held solo exhibitions in Florence (2015, 2022), Lyon (2018), and Taiwan (2020).
Among the awards he has received are the Miss Arte Moda Italia Prize (2016), the printmaking competition award from the Minamishimabara Seminar in Japan (2023), and finalist selections at Figurativas 2017 in Barcelona and the Sacred Art Prize 2022 in Chicago.
